Crete is for a lot of people, the island of surprises as it has endless beaches both north and south of the island. One of the best destinations is Balos beach. Balos is one of the beaches of Crete that you should go see, let alone swim in its beautiful crystal clear emerald waters. Next to Balos beach, there is the island of Gramvousa with its beautiful castle.
Balos beach is located at the northwestern part of Crete and about 186 kilometers from Heraklion. You will for sure be thrilled with the pink sand, the amount of shells, the emerald color of the sea and you will feel like you are in paradise. There are two ways that you could get to Balos beach. By car or by the boats that depart every morning from Kasteli Kisamos and return in the afternoon, offering you an unforgettable experience with beautiful indelible memories. The boat stops on the island of Gramvousa with the crystal clear blue waters that will leave you breathless with its beauty. There, you can dive and explore the magic of the landscape.
In Gramvousa, which is famous for the venetian fortress that dominates there. Legend says that the fortress was used by pirates and there is a large treasure hidden. For us , the great untold treasure is our presence at this divine part of Balos and we are sure that you are going to talk about this trip for a long time. We recommend to avoid the first way as the car can’t reach it and you will have to walk a difficult route for about 20 minutes and from our experience it is equally difficult to climb the steep uphill on the way back.
Balos is one of the most beautiful, romantic, ancient sites as well as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. It is an ideal place for photography due to its wild natural beauty, and the beautiful , serene and exotic landscape. Also, the old shipwreck that was abandoned many years ago near the beach, has become the most photographed landscape.
